AS Roma vs Inter Milan
It wouldn’t be wrong for a casual football fan to assume that the Serie A is nothing but an avenue for Juventus to show off the difference between them and the rest of the chasing pack at the Italian top flight. However, you would be mistaken if you think there aren’t any more interesting matches that are worthy of your attention and money.
The coming weekend duel between Roma and Inter Milan will surely provide some fantastic Serie A 2018 highlights to fans who will decide to watch this duel. These two juggernauts have always threatened to steal the throne from Juve and have the players to possibly challenge for the throne.
While the league’s current landscape point to that possibility being far from achievable, we can at least count to see some great football from these two sides.
Talking Points
The Romans roar to retake their place
Roma have struggled to get things going at the start of the season as they are currently just outside the top six places of the Serie A table. While there is still plenty of time for I Giallorossi to reestablish their position and reclaim one of the Champions League spots, Eusebio Di Francesco is surely not happy with the way his club’s season has started.
Roma suffered four defeats and four draws, robbing the club based in the Italian capital of points that could have seen them rank higher. One of those regrettable results was the Derby del Sole wherein they somehow managed to contain a strong Napoli team into only scoring a single goal against them.
However, they cannot keep playing defensively if they want to win against Inter and climb back to the top of the table. They need their players to step up and show up when they play Inter at the Stadio Olimpico.
Edin Dzeko and Stephan El Shaarawy have been two of the side’s most important players moving forward, but both are set to miss this important clash due to injuries: both men are recovering from damage on their flexor muscles.
With two of their star attackers out of the fold, it will be up to men like Aleksandar Kolarov, Lorenzo Pellegrini and Javier Pastore to set up the Giallorossi for success.
The question now is to whether they can withstand a strong Inter team without their star attackers.
Inter seek to chase the top
While Roma are looking to get back to the Champions League places, Inter Milan are looking farther ahead when it comes to their aspirations. It does seem like chasing Juventus is a shot in the dark, but they are definitely in the running to at least mount a challenge to the defending champions.
The Nerazzurri have been fighting on two fronts and have been faring well in both of them. While Christian Eriksen stole their thunder in their latest Champions League tie, they are still in the running to make it to the knockout stages.
Domestically, they are still in top form as they have won nine of their 13 Serie A games. With Mauro Icardi scoring freely for Inter, they easily outplayed opposition such as Lazio. Moreover, his support is outstanding talents such as Ivan Perisic, Stefan de Vrij and Matteo Politano.
Another boon for the guests is the superb bill of health they are enjoying. With almost all of their first-team players ready to play, there’s no reason for Inter Milan to falter here of all places. The only thing that would stop them from getting the three points is themselves.
History
There should be little to no questions as to which side is considered the bigger favourites ahead of this match.
The Stadio Olimpico has been somewhat of a reliable fortress for Roma, getting points for almost all of the home games they have played in the Serie A. However, their 0-2 loss to SPAL in October is a big indicator of the inconsistencies they have been exposed to all season. In fact, they’ve only won one of their last five matches in the top flight.
Meanwhile, Inter have had a stable run in the league, improving their Serie A 2018 odds by leaps and bounds. While they lost embarrassingly to Atalanta, they cruised through four of their last five games.
When it comes to the head-to-head, Inter have the slight lead with their 28 wins over Roma’s 20. This same fixture last year saw Roma lose to Inter, 1-3.

The romantic in me would like to see Roma crush Inter Milan and claw their way back to the top four. After all, they gave many neutral fans a Champions League tournament to remember last year when they knocked out Barcelona in the most dramatic fashion.
However, I don’t think they can make up for the absences of Dzeko and El Shaarawy. The lack of scoring is evident in this iteration of Roma. I don’t think they have the firepower to match a player of Icardi’s quality.
If you’re interested in other markets, SBOBET has got plenty of interesting odds. 2-3 Total Goals is available at 1.98. A repeat of last year’s result is at 21.00, while Over 2.75 Goals is at 2.00.
