Only Victory Will Do for These Bitter Rivals!

Nigeria vs Cameroon

Nigeria and Cameroon have fought out several remarkable football games over the years, and they will renew their rivalry once again when they meet in back-to-back World Cup qualifying matches this September.

The first stop, however, is at Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo where Nigeria will look to use the home soil to their advantage to take a firm control of Group B and delight their live betting followers.

Betting odds already favour Nigeria, who lead the group with six points, and boss Gernot Rohr showed that he means business with the call-up of various Premier League players such as Leicester City standouts Wilfred Ndidi, Ahmed Musa and Kelechi Iheanacho as well as Chelsea’s Victor Moses and former Blues’ man John Obi Mikel.

Cameroon, on the other hand, know what’s at stake and what’s waiting for them on their trip to Nigeria, so manager Hugo Broos also filled his squad with foreign-based talent led by FC Porto’s Vincent Aboubakar, Stoke City’s Eric Choupo-Moting and Marseille’s Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa.

Africa Cup of Nations MVP Christian Bassogog is also set to return to give the Indomitable Lions more depth up front, along with 28-year-old Jiangsu Suning forward Benjamin Moukandjo.

Nigeria have won both of their third-round games with Zambia and Algeria, but after losing their opening match in the Africa Cup of Nations qualification against South Africa last June, the pressure is on the Super Eagles to perform, particularly against their eternal rivals.

The Cameroonians, meanwhile, have only two points in the group after a couple of 1-1 stalemates. Nonetheless, they will return to the big stage with more confidence and experience following their Confederations Cup tour in Russia where they tussled among the world’s best teams.

Both these sides will only be satisfied with a win, not just for the points but also for the pride and honour that’s at stake – a situation which should make for a compelling meeting.

Nigeria clearly have the better squad in terms of talent, but their inconsistency is a concerning factor that could very well punish them come game day.

I think Cameroon have a legitimate chance of pulling off an upset considering the way they have played this year. Their 2017 AFCON title run came as a surprise, so there’s reason to believe that they can make another magical run, especially with their hopes of qualifying on the line.

With that in mind, it wouldn’t be a bad choice to bet on Cameroon Asian Handicap +0.50 @ 2.00.
