For my betting tips this weekend, it’s time to look more closely at the strugglers.
Those involving football games with new managers, with interim managers and with under-pressure managers.
If nothing else, the differing situations will give the betting odds an extra twist!
Crystal Palace vs West Ham United (October 28, 22:00 GMT+8)
Just when it looked like Slaven Bilic would join Frank De Boer, Craig Shakespeare and Ronald Koeman on the Premier League managerial casualty list, along came a glimpse of what made the Croat and West Ham such a fine combination two seasons ago.
Their 3-2 League Cup win at Wembley against Spurs, after they trailed 2-0, was a result few saw coming and spoke volumes for the togetherness and spirit inside the camp.
Players threw their shirts to their jubilant support at full-time.
In contrast, Crystal Palace – albeit an understrength version – were embarrassed in the same competition at Bristol City and even had a shirt flung back onto the pitch at full-time.
Can Palace avoid a repeat of such shambolic defending? Do West Ham have enough left in the tank to repeat such a showing?
I do think the Eagles will edge it, believe it or not.
I’m going for 2 x 🌟🌟 bets of First Half Asian Handicap -0.25 Crystal Palace @ 2.42 and Asian Handicap -0.25 Crystal Palace @ 2.02.
Brighton & Hove Albion vs Southampton (October 29, 21:30 GMT+8)
A south coast derby and an occasion to savour for both sets of fans.
Should the Seagulls prevail, they will have the bonus of leapfrogging the Saints in the Premier League table.
Not since a goalless draw in April 1983 – the year Brighton reached the FA Cup Final and were relegated – have the sides clashed in the top flight.
Brighton were excellent at both ends of the pitch in their 3-0 crushing of West Ham. The Saints weren’t at their fluid best but edged past West Brom thanks to a superb solo goal from Sofiane Boufal.
It should be tight and there should be goals – hence why I think the margins will be fine.
A 🌟🌟🌟 selection for me is over 2.25 goals @ 2.21.
Leicester City vs Everton (October 30, 00:00 GMT+8)
The appointment of Claude Puel could be seen as an astute move by the Foxes.
The Frenchman guided Southampton to the League Cup Final and eighth spot last season before being harshly dismissed in the summer, so he will have a point to prove.
So will Everton caretaker boss David Unsworth as he bids for the job full-time.
He would have seen signs of improvement in their narrow League Cup defeat to Chelsea but knows this game could be the first real test of his credentials to succeed Ronald Koeman.
Both sides will go for the victory and another 🌟🌟🌟 tip from me is over 2.50 goals @ 1.97.
