It’s the Bianconeri’s turn to lift the curtain on this week’s Serie A entertainment, and we could be in for a goal avalanche when the league leaders take on struggling Palermo.
It’s taken 24 league football games but Gonzalo Higuain has now hit the top of the scoring charts with 18, and the Juve hit man will be licking his lips. Meanwhile, chief chasers Roma and Napoli have tricky games to navigate.
WEEK 25 SATURDAY:
Juventus vs Palermo
If ever there was a time and place for handicap betting, then Saturday in Turin is surely it. You have to take a handicap of -2.25 to get odds of 1.97 on a home win. And equally, a bet on over 3.25 goals will give you 2.05. Palermo is in 18th and hasn’t given up hope of survival, but they may just have to take what comes on Saturday!
WEEK 25 SUNDAY:
Atalanta vs Crotone
Palermo suffered a 1-3 reversal at home to Atalanta last week, and the victors now host a Crotone team, one place back and nine points from safety. Striker Alejandro Gomez hit his ninth of the season to help Atalanta stay fifth and still within touch of the Champions League places.
Empoli vs Lazio
Lazio was five minutes away from a win over Milan which would have taken them fourth in the table, and this week they could do Palermo and Crotone a favour when they face 17th-placed Empoli. But the hosts are unbeaten in four home games, and you can get odds of 1.96 on a double chance of Empoli or Draw.
Chievo vs Napoli
Similarly, Napoli—a further two points back in third—don’t have too much room to manoeuvre and will be keen to hold on to the third spot with Inter, Atalanta and Lazio in pursuit. Eleventh-placed Chievo has found form again with seven points from the last three after a run of defeats.
Bologna vs Inter
Fourth-placed Inter is at 1.83 to win away at Bologna, and that’s not a bad shout against a team on a run of three consecutive defeats and which conceded three goals in the last ten minutes to Sampdoria last week.
Pescara vs Genoa
Oh dear. It looks like new boys Pescara are about to return from whence they came; stranded on nine points with just a forfeited win (against Sassuolo) to their name. But this could be a chance for a real win against Genoa – a team in equally bad form with five defeats in the last seven.
Sampdoria vs Cagliari
Sampdoria’s rapid-fire finish against Bologna gave them a third win on the bounce, a nice little run which has taken Marco Giampaolo’s men up to tenth. It’s generally a good game when Cagliari is in town with two-thirds of the visitors’ games yielding over 2.5 goals, but they are without a win in four.
Udinese vs Sassuolo
Twelfth plays fifteenth but there are only two points in it and an away win will enable Sassuolo to leapfrog their hosts. They aren’t exactly consistent, winning and losing alternately over the last six games. But if the sequence continues it’s a win this week, and Udinese have only won once over the same period, so who knows…away win?
WEEK 25 MONDAY:
Roma vs Torino
In second place and seven points behind Juve, Luciano Spalletti’s Roma face a Torino side which beat Pescara 5-3, the most telling statistic against the bottom side being the three goals conceded! Edin Dzeko was on target for Roma last week and shares the top scorer spot with Higuain, so there’s an incentive.
Milan vs Fiorentina
Suso struck a late equaliser for a draw at Lazio on Tuesday, and that was enough to keep Milan seventh ahead of Fiorentina who had just beaten Udinese 3-0. There’s only a point between these two and La Viola carries a real threat in ten-goal strikers Nikola Kalinic and Federico Bernardeschi.
