Colombia 1-2 Paraguay
Many of Colombia’s football betting fans didn’t expect to lose to Paraguay out of all nations, but that’s the beauty of football games in South America: every single nation in the World Cup has the talent to beat anyone, even Brazil, on a good day.
Colombia, the side live betting pundits preferred before the start, had very lively first half. Save for Derlis Gonzalez’s fine attempt in the 19th minute that was denied by the post, the entire half was dominated by La Tricolor.
Colombia had the bulk of the possession throughout the match. James Rodriguez and Juan Cuadrado were very prolific on the ball, creating chances with their dribbling and precise passes. It was clear to the Estadio Metropolitano Roberto Melendez crowd that it was only a matter of time until their team scored.
However, things were starting to get tense when the Colombians were held scoreless all the way until the halfway mark of the second half. The productive Cuadrado was replaced with fresher legs, but the long-awaited goal didn’t come.
It was at the tail-end of the game when Yimmi Chara made a perfect lob pass to Radamel Falcao. The Monaco defender made a one-touch chip over Antony Silva for the long-awaited goal.
However, the game still had a lot in store in its dying minutes. Desperate to get even, Paraguay’s attacks got rougher. They managed to tire out the defence and made their move in the 89th minute. David Ospina was forced to poorly clear out a free kick to the penalty box. The ball landed in front of Arnaldo Sanabria, who passed it to the unguarded Oscar Cardozo for the goal.
The heartbreak doubled for Colombia when Sanabria poached a shot deflected by Ospina for the goal. Again, no Colombian shirt was near him when he scored.
It was a night of heartbreak for Los Cafeteros after seeing their automatic berth stolen from them. They now have the gargantuan task of beating Peru away in order to secure the final automatic qualification slot.
