German Grand Prix 2019
The 11th round of the 2019 Formula 1 World Championship will take place at the historic circuit in Hockenheim for the German Grand Prix.
A staple in F1 history since 1970, the 2.8-mile long road surface will be the latest arena in which will pose a new challenge for our racers at 67 laps.
Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton will look to add on to his record-setting run by eyeing a sixth win in the last seven races. He is, after all, the favourite to emerge victorious once again in the same circuit based on the German Grand Prix odds.
Other standouts like Charles Leclerc, Valtteri Bottas, Pierre Gasly, Max Verstappen, and Sebastian Vettel are hoping for a better outcome in the said event, but it all remains to be seen.
SBOBET gives its take on the highly-anticipated German leg of the 2019 Grand Prix.
Talking Points
Lewis Hamilton stamping his class
Much of Mercedes’ overall success can be owed to none other than Lewis Hamilton. The 34-year-old is enjoying a successful season so far with a championship lead at 39 points.
He bounced back wonderfully at the Silverstone Circuit, especially after a cat-and-mouse tussle with Mercedes teammate Valtteri Bottas. He leapfrogged Bottas during a safety car period in what was a thrilling affair.
However, things might not be easy this time for the five-time world champion as reports touched upon Germany’s temperature forecast which may pose some problems for Mercedes’ car parts.
Mercedes W10’s cooling system, in particular, is what’s concerning Hamilton and the rest of his crew. Team boss Toto Wolff shared that the car’s small radiators might not be able to withstand the extreme heat and altitude – a storyline to watch out for in the German Grand Prix news.
Nevertheless, Hamilton offers no excuses and he promises to bring his A-game on Sunday.
“There is not much we can do; it is a much bigger design issue when it gets hot which is not easy to change. We are working towards it,” said Hamilton.
Other challengers knocking on the door
Speaking of challenges, other racers are probably plotting on how to win the race in Hockenheim on Sunday.
Valtteri Bottas almost had it in the bag in Silverstone when he kept Lewis Hamilton at bay for the most part. However, the safety car brought about by Antonio Giovinazzi’s predicament gave Hamilton a sliver of daylight to finally take the lead for good.
Bottas was this close to steal one over his teammate. But nonetheless, seeing your two racers going at it is a sight to behold if you’re Mercedes.
Meanwhile, it’s easy to see as to why Charles Leclerc has a bright future for Ferrari.
The 21-year-old was already promoted in only his sophomore season in F1, and he has outpaced his teammate Sebastian Vettel so far.
Lewis Hamilton heaped praise to the young driver, saying that everyone should be looking out for him. Hearing those words would surely boost the young man’s confidence.
Red Bull racer Pierre Gasly churned out a fine performance at Silverstone after finishing fourth. It was the first time where he finished ahead of his teammate Max Verstappen on the road.
However, due to a rough start, Gasly stands sixth in the drivers’ standings 55 points apart from Verstappen’s 136. But once he gets his groove soon, look out.
Will Sebastian Vettel find comfort at home?
Sebastian Vettel hopes that racing at home would turn the tables around for him.
So far this season, the Ferrari racer has had some trouble in getting back on top.
In the British Grand Prix, Vettel crashed into the rear of Verstappen’s Red Bull, compromising his chances. All in all, the four-time world champion has made eight errors since last year and he’s eager to bounce back ever since.
The German racer has only won once in the German GP, and that was back in 2013 when he was representing Red Bull.
History
The Hockenheim circuit has been a staple for the F1 championship, and it became a personal playground for some of the best drivers ever.
Lewis Hamilton is the winningest among them with four wins and is looking to add more, while no other racer has won the German Grand Prix at least twice.
Ferrari have won 22 times in the said competition, while other constructors Mercedes and McLaren won 11 and 8 respectively. Red Bull has only won twice since its entry in 2005.
What are the odds?
As expected, Lewis Hamilton is primed to win his fifth German GP. However, if his car will have some trouble with the heat in Hockenheim, that might not be a foregone conclusion.
Interestingly, Pierre Gasly is slated at 1.93 in terms of finishing position. Perhaps he appears to be a dark horse in the upcoming race.
With Hamilton dominating the competition, I guess it’s just a matter on who ends up in second place for the other racers.
