Italian Grand Prix
The Scuderia are hoping for a replay of last year as the Formula One calendar now shifts to Monza for the Italian Grand Prix.
It can be noted that Charles Leclerc broke Ferrari’s nine-year drought last term despite facing serious pressure Lewis Hamilton the whole race, but a lot has changed since then.
In this season’s restart, Leclerc has yet to win a single race although he had encouraging performances in Austria and in Silverstone to where he finished at the podium.
Now that they’re back in their home soil, the Scuderia are probably relieved that there won’t be any live fans watching this weekend’s race, or else they might be booed off the paddock by their home supporters.
Still, this is a race to look forward to not only for Ferrari but for every other constructor involved. And as always, SBOTOP has you covered with the latest Italian Grand Prix 2020 updates.
The Prancing Horse lack pep in their step
The Italian Grand Prix 2020 odds do not favour Ferrari at all in this weekend’s race as their struggles have been well-documented.
In the recently concluded Belgian Grand Prix, the Scuderia were humiliated once more as their drivers were off pace the whole time. Sebastian Vettel and Charles Leclerc finished at 13th and 14th respectively.
Their cars’ inefficient engine and other related issues remain to be their main problem, as their aerodynamic design has yet to provide better power and performance overall.
The power advantage that they had in the same circuit last season is now a long distant memory, which is why Charles Leclerc had already downplayed his expectations for this weekend.
“Well, on one hand I don’t really have a choice. But surely it will take some patience and I’m ready to wait. It’s my job to try and make this whole process as short as possible and for us to come back where we deserve to be,” admitted Leclerc.
“As a driver, I definitely want to believe in that third place in the championship, even if we know it’s going to be difficult,” he added.
What the Monegasque driver has been referring to is the constructors championship race. The Prancing Horse are currently fifth in the list with 61 points.
Renault looking to build off good outing in Spa
Aside from Mercedes, Renault came out with a happy ending from Spa given their performance last weekend.
Daniel Ricciardo and Esteban Ocon managed to notch their best finishes since the restart, placing fourth and fifth respectively in the Belgian Grand Prix.
Because of this, the two of them are coming in confident this weekend. Daniel Ricciardo mentioned that the team wants to build off of their momentum as they gun for a podium finish.
“We’ll try to make it happen and I think we’re in good place, so we’ll try to keep the ball rolling,” said Ricciardo.
“I remember last year as well, one good weekend – and you’re back in the constructors’ fight. It’s really tight at the moment but it’s absolutely up for grabs,” he added.
Renault are also jockeying for position in the constructors standings. They are two points behind the fifth-seeded Ferrari and a positive result could propel them to as high as the top four.
Williams Racing facing major overhaul
Frank and Claire Williams shocked everyone when they recently announced that they will step down from their positions effective this weekend.
Williams Racing has been acquired by Dorilton Capital, who is a big investment firm over at the United States.
“With the future of the team now secured, this feels like the appropriate time for us to step away from the sport. We are incredibly proud of our track record and the legacy we leave behind,” said Claire Williams.
The Williams family has led the team to major heights over the past 40 years which includes nine constructors’ championships and seven drivers’ titles.
With a new group leading the way, the challenge for them is to maintain the Williams family legacy moving forward and help the team grow into a dominant force that it once was.
History
The Italian Grand Prix is one of the oldest races in Formula One. It has been in existence since 1921.
Ferrari icon Michael Schumacher and Lewis Hamilton have made Monza their personal playground as they have 10 titles between them.
What are the odds?
There’s death, taxes, and the Silver Arrows being heavily favoured in the betting odds.
Given their one-two performance in the last time out, Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas are the favourites to win with odds priced at 1.30 and 1.85.
Max Versatappen is primed to be the third guy in the podium, but he will be seriously challenged by either Daniel Ricciardo or Esteban Ocon.
