So the Six Nations is underway; and after Round One, it’s first blood to England in the battle of the two favourites. This weekend, Eddie Jones’ team will face Wales with a win in the bag while Ireland is still waiting.
Ireland Rugby has the stars to make it happen but England have the know-how, and for rugby betting fans that’s worth a whole lot.
Italy vs Ireland
In flanker CJ Stander, Ireland boasts the outstanding player in the Northern hemisphere. Stander has been immense for Munster and can lift the Irish again.
Ireland had loads of possession and dominated the scrum throughout the surprise defeat to Scotland, and I can’t see them fluffing their lines in Italy. Alongside Stander, the Irish fans have the outstanding prospect Garry Ringrose in their ranks, and the great Brian O’Driscoll has tipped the new number 13 for great things.
Wales vs England
England just edged out France 19-16 last week and Eddie Jones was frustrated by the indiscipline of his team, with Jonny May being sent to the sin bin for a dangerous tackle. Jones laid into his side, saying: “We did not play well. I thought we were awful but these boys have a never-say-die attitude. I will make sure the team plays much better against Wales.” George North scored a brilliant try as Wales saw off a tiring Italy 33-7 to top the group, but England, with Jones’ words ringing in their ears, is a different prospect.
France vs Scotland
On Sunday, France will come out fighting to wipe out the memory of defeat to an underperforming England side. Greig Laidlaw slotted two late penalties to give Scotland a 27-22 win against Ireland in the opening fixture and says the Scots have got tougher. France fly-half Camille Lopez’ game management could help his team do what the Irish failed to do and beat the Scots.
