Novak Djokovic just ended his 2023 campaign with a bang after winning the ATP Finals last week. So, at the end of it all, the Serb remains the undisputed No. 1 player in the world.
Which is why his fans were not happy when they learned that he wouldn’t be winning some of the most prestigious awards on the ATP tour since he deserves to be at least nominated.
Elsewhere, Jannik Sinner also ended his 2023 season on a high note by making his country proud with his latest achievement, while Andrey Rublev is already looking ahead to next year, especially after a poor outing in the ATP Finals.

Djokovic doesn’t need the popularity votes
Novak Djokovic may not be in the running for the Stefan Edberg Sportsmanship and Fans’ Favourite Awards for some reason, but he can argue that we won all the prizes that mattered this year.
In 2023, the Serb won three Grand Slams (the Australian Open, Roland Garros, and US Open) and finished the year again as world No. 1 for a record-extending 400th week.
In February, Djokovic broke Stefanie Graf’s record of 377 weeks as a top-ranked player to become the all-time leader both in the men’s and women’s categories. He also managed to pass Roger Federer’s 310-week mark in 2021 for most weeks at the top by an ATP player in the process.
During the awarding ceremony in Turin two weeks ago, Djokovic called his record-breaking season a huge honour, and the good news is that the ATP 2023 odds continue to favour him since he’s not showing signs of slowing down anytime soon.
Next season, Djokovic can add to his already-decorated resume.
The Serb can reach the 100 trophies mark, and he only needs two more, and with 1,086 career victories, he’s likely to become just the third ATP player in history to pass the 1,100 wins mark alongside Roger Federer and Jimmy Connors.
Also, Djokovic will be keen on adding to his record 24 Grand Slams and 40 ATP Masters 1000 titles, and he has a great chance of claiming his 25th Grand Slam as early as the Australian Open, where he has won 10 times.
Sinner wins the Davis Cup for Italy
Jannik Sinner managed to avenge his ATP Finals defeat by leading Italy to its first Davis Cup since 1976, and it was earned the hard way.
Sinner had to save three match points to put away Novak Djokovic, who beat him in the ATP Finals, in the semi-finals with a score of 6-2, 2-6, 7-5.
In the final, Sinner had a relatively easier time beating Alex de Minaur, 6-3, 6-0, on Sunday. The Italian international was particularly dominant in his baseline exchanges, with 25 winners to just nine unforced errors.
Overall, 2023 has been a great year for the 22-year-old. Sinner managed to reach his first-ever Grand Slam semi-final at Wimbledon before losing to Djokovic, and he also won his first ATP Masters 1000 title at the Canadian Open last August.
Sinner is currently the fourth-ranked player in the world, making him the highest-ranked Italian male player in history. With Sinner taking that next step, the sky is the limit for him, and SBOTOP tennis fans can’t wait to see more from him.
Rublev plans holistic approach ahead of next season
Andrey Rublev was reflective of his 2023 campaign, and his main takeaway is that he needs to be a much better player next season.
He went on to point out that he needs to improve psychologically in order to take his game to the next level since he is prone to losing his cool on the court, especially if things don’t go according to plan.
The Russian international was particularly disappointing in the recently concluded ATP Finals, where he lost all three of his group stage games, thus exiting early as a result.
“What needs to be improved? A ton of everything,” said Rublev in a recent interview.
To be fair, Rublev had a great 2023 season overall. He finished fifth in the ATP rankings after winning his maiden ATP Masters 1000 title in Monte Carlo and his 14th ATP title at the Swedish Open.
Rublev also managed to reach the quarter-finals in three of the four Grand Slams he competed in this year, although he has yet to make it to a semi-final in a Grand Slam.
