If we look at their run in the tournament, it’s hard to tell who’ll come out on top. Both women had especially tough opponents in the quarter-final: Venus barely edged out Petra Kvitova while Stephens took Anastasija Sevastova to a full-set match before winning the final tie-break.
Their match history, however, gives Stephens the slight lead. Their only previous match was at Roland Garros, where Stephens managed to contain the 37-year-old legend in straight sets. Their similar playing styles could also make for long rallies.
Should push come to shove, I will put my money on Williams making her fifth US Open final. She’s been here before, giving her the psychological edge. However, Stephens should be able to take the game to full sets. Put your money on Stephens +1.50 @ 1.49.
